Welcome to Our Blog & 365 Women a Year

Updated: Nov 21, 2021

Hi everyone! My name is Ilaria Georgi, and I am on the Marketing Executive Board for White Mouse. I am originally from Jacksonville, Florida, and this is my first year working with White Mouse. I was asked to write the very first blog post for our website.

The goal of this blog is to connect past, present, and future members to what we have going on at White Mouse Productions. I thought a great way to start would be to talk about the 365 Women a Year Festival happening at the end of this month.

This will be White Mouse’s 5th time producing this festival, but the 365 Women a Year project itself was actually founded in 2014. The goal of the project is to “write women back into the social consciousness as well as empower and promote female playwrights around the world.” Playwrights from all around the world write plays about women who may have been forgotten by history.

This emphasis on women in theatre means a great deal to me. Someone pointed out to me recently how few women producers and published playwrights there actually are. In fact, a survey done in 2017 showed that, on the Broadway stage, only eleven percent of the playwrights were women. The trend of published women playwrights being far less abundant than men stays consistent on stages all across the country. The 365 Women a Year project works in an effort to contrast this, as well as feature more women in theatre. The project has done a great job of highlighting women’s stories and efforts.

This year, White Mouse’s 365 Women a Year Festival will be held on Friday, November 19 at 8 pm, Saturday, November 20 at 1 pm, and Sunday, November 21 at 1 pm. It will consist of five 10-20 minute long plays, each spotlighting a forgotten woman from history. I am also excited to be the stage manager for one of these plays, and I hope to see you all there!
